FAQ

Here are some of the most common questions we receive. Click on the links at the top to jump straight to the answer below.

  • How long does the band need to set up their equipment?

    • ToneRiders will require a minimum of one hour to set up and sound check their equipment. If it is difficult to get into the venue with all of the equipment, this may take longer. The band usually make contact with the venue directly to check this detail. It normally takes around an hour for ToneRiders to pack down and remove their equipment. Everything will be left as found.
  • Do the band provide their own sound and lighting equipment?

    • The band provide all their own top of the line sound and lighting equipment needed to ensure excellent quality sound and display. All of the band's electrical equipment is PAT tested for safety and the band also holds public liability insurance.
  • How long does the band play for?

    • ToneRiders usually provide 2 x 50 minute sets, between 8pm and midnight, but it’s your night, so we’re happy to fit in with your timings. Extra sets can be added at additional cost. We can provide background music between the live sets, however if you are also hiring a DJ/Disco we can work with them to ensure things run smoothly. It’s best to plan food around the band’s sets (usually after the 1st set). If the buffet is on at the same time as the band are playing, people are less likely to be enjoying themselves on the dance floor.
  • Is it possible to see the band before booking?

    • The majority of ToneRiders' bookings are private functions, weddings or corporate events and as such, we are unable to invite people along to watch a live gig. To allow prospective clients the chance to come and see the band in action, ToneRiders hold an "open" rehearsal once a month. Details of these rehearsals are posted on our Facebook page. You will get to experience the live sound of the full band, as we put finishing touches to new songs and arrangements, or practice our dance moves! We welcome you to discuss your requirements with the band and we will work with you to achieve the ideal package for your event.
  • Do I need to provide anything for the band?

    • The average working day of a gigging musician can be very long; as such, we do ask that the band are provided with food and refreshments at the event, either before hand or during the interval.
  • How much do you charge?

    • ToneRiders charge a standard fee for a 7-piece band for weddings and functions, within 40 miles travelling distance from our base in Darlington. We require a non-refundable deposit at the time of booking, to cover up-front costs and travel expense. We ask that the balance be paid in full, 2 weeks prior to the date of the event. It is possible to pay in instalments, if this is preferable. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and receive an accurate quotation.
  • Why should we use your band? There are others that are cheaper?

    • ToneRiders are a 100% live band - no backing tracks, no recorded extras. Everything you hear is played and sung by talented and experienced musicians. Because of this, we have the flexibility to change the style of songs as we go, add in requests in the middle, or play for different amounts of time. Once you have heard the band at one of our open rehearsals, you will experience the quality sound and understand the excitement expressed by our past and future clients. Take a look at our Testimonials section for more proof...

  • Can you play requests live?

    • If you have requests for specific songs, we'll always endeavour to learn and/or play them, however we kindly ask for as much notice as possible. Usually, 'first dance' songs are played as mp3 (or by a DJ if you have hired one). We welcome requests from your guests, during the performance, and will accommodate these where we can.
  • What happens if someone in the band is ill?

    • Occasionally, we may have to provide deputy musicians to cover illness and availability, but you can rest assured the quality of performance will not be affected, due to the high calibre of musicians we use.
